Percutaneous Magnetic Stimulation of Central and Peripheral Motor Pathway-Thenar magnetic motor Evoked Potentials in normal Person

Abstract
Author studied mean thenar peak latencies of motor evoked potential and central motor conduction time in 60 normal adults without symptom, sign, and past history of neurologic disease, seizure, previous head injury sufficiently severe to have
resulted
in unconsciousness and previous cranial neurosurgery, and who showed no specific abnormality in the physical and neurological examination.
Statistical analysis with student's test was performed to evaluate differences in the data between male and female groups. The effect of height and arm length and arm length on thenar motor evoked potential peak latency were investigated by
regression
analysis method.
@ES The results were as follows:
@EN 1. The normal ranges of mean peak latency in thenar motor evoked potential with stimulation at vertex, spinous process of 7th cervical vertebra, Erb's point and elbow were 24.58¡¾1.88 msec, 15.83¡¾1.74 msec, 14.64¡¾1.69 msec, 9.1¡¾1.16 msec
with
limits of 27.5 msec, 20msec, 19.2 msec, 12.3 msec respectively, and there was no significant statistical difference between male and female groups(P>0.05).
2) The normal range of central motor conduction time was 8.75¡¾1.20 msec with upper limits of 11.2 msec, and there was no significant statistical difference between the male and female groups(P>0.05).
3) The normal ranges of mean amplitude in thenar motor evoked potential with stimulation at vertex, spinous process of 7th cervical vertebra, Erb's point and elbow were 1042.7¡¾900.4 §Å, 722.2¡¾963.5§Å, 1320.3¡¾1074.8§Å, 2990.7¡¾222.14§Åand
there
was
very wide range between upper and lower limits.
4) The peak latency in thenar motor motor evoked potential with stimulation at vertex showed statistically significant postive correlation with height(r=0.6646, P<0.001) and arm length(r=0.6134, P<0.001).
